Using Transcripts from meeting professionally
Share
I have spent many hours working through how my professional skills and needs in effectively and securely managing employment, people, and human resources matters can be done.
A common feature is the transcribe-only option for MS Teams meetings (I am sure a similar feature exists on other platforms). Transcribe allows you to capture a meeting almost word-for-word. Transcribe only does not specifically record in the sense of a video or audio file, so likely a better way to capture more sensitive meetings.
There are some security considerations I will cover in a future blog post.
It works better when individuals are logged into a call, and the tool can distinguish each user separately.
You get the transcript back, great, so what! You may remember the days when you wrote formal notes by hand for a meeting, or spent hours typing them up, or typed them directly during the meeting. All are time-consuming, and sometimes inaccuracies occur when you can't read your notes or keep up with the pace of the meeting.
You can take the transcript and manually create a copy you can share with the meeting participants. Even this is quicker than more traditional methods. However, what if you could use AI tools (don't forget the security side), to clean up data and create a set of notes for you that are useful, usable, and potentially legally required?
There are companies and tools out there that do just that. As an introduction, I found this great online article by GoTranscript that takes you through some of the thinking and skills that help go from transcript to usable document: How to Clean Up Microsoft Teams Transcripts for Professional Use | GoTranscript
